AXIS MUNDI: The Sacred Center

This series called "Fantasy Wood," was part of group exhibition at ASmith Gallery, Johnson City, TX. The images began their journey as photos of thick slices of a fallen tree, looking like rotting mini-tree trunks. I was curious about what mysterious stories could be lurking in these tree relics. As the Celtic symbol of the Axis Mundi, trees are thought to unite three planes: the branches are the sky; the trunk is the earth; and the roots are the doorway to the Otherworld. Each picture is a stepping stone from the material world to the beyond.
